Why me, why now?

I am an ideas person – I am full of them. Sadly, that is not all I am full of and nine times out of ten my [I would like to think] well-devised thoughts lie forgotten on the wayside. At least until two years ago…

After work one winter evening in June 2013, The Influencer and I skipped up to nearby Crows Nest, as we so often did, for a [bottle or two of] wine. We got talking about careers and where we envisioned we would be in the not-too-distant future. At this point, The Influencer casually dropped into conversation that she was considering making the big move to London – and that perhaps I should consider it too.

My mind was made.

I would move to London with The Influencer. Spare of the minute decisions aided by copious amounts of wine and absolutely zero consideration for either implication or outcome are always the best decisions, aren’t they? Practically fool proof.

With minimal movement on my train of thought in the weeks that followed, I eventually took myself over to a travel agent with the hope of working towards converting my big plan into an itinerary. Forty-five minutes later, I emerged with a print-out of flight numbers, dates and a list of destinations. Somehow, in that short window of time, I had convinced myself that now was as good a time as ever to take on ‘that trip’ I had so witlessly talked about through the years.

Latin America beckoned and South-East Asia begged my return…and I now had four short months to plan, pack and embark on my one-way adventure.

I digress. What was my point again? Oh yes – this blog. Why me, why now? Up until this point, my story has comprised of fragmented memories and a few stray photographs that I have gathered along the way. At its most basic, I want to create a running record of my life. From my lost thoughts at 3:00AM to my forays into food and my travel adventures.

So that’s it! My name is Lesley. I am a twenty-something year old living in London – but I still call Sydney home. I like to eat, I like to cook, I like to drink and I like to travel. And now I would like to write about it. I am by no means an expert across any of the subjects I choose to write about – merely enthusiastic. But I do hope you will join me.
